Arad
Arad is another city in Western Romania, very close to the Hungarian border. The city developed in the 12th century and then it was subject to the Turkish invasion that resulted in the temporary break in its development. In the 18th century a fortress, as well as a big number of baroque and neoclassical buildings were built in the city. Among the nice places to be visited we can list:
Mihai Viteazul Square, bordered by a few very interesting old buildings
The Palace of Culture, 19th century building with three façades in different architectural styles
The Orthodox Cathedral, a baroque style monument dating from 1698
Simion Stâlpnicul Monastery in the center of Gai Quarter (18th century), baroque building
Ardealul Hotel, a neoclassical building from 1841
Arad Fortress, a Vauban system building dating from 1762-1783, with a baroque chapel
The Orthodox Serbian Church, built in 1698 in baroque style.
