Hunedoara Castle

Hunyadi's Castle in Hunedoara is one of the most important medieval art monuments in Romania. This is The Medieval Castle to visit in Transylvania, instead of any of "Dracula's" Castles. The castle was built in the 13th century on the ruins of some older Roman fortress. A consequence, the Renaissance and baroque styles were mixed to accomplish the building. Iancu Hunyadi, an exquisite army leader that defended the Turks and also a governor of Transylvania, restored the castle in 1446 and 1453. The wide halls, with typical gothic arches, the massive towers, the interior yard and the once mobile bridge, such elements make this a very interesting place to visit. Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned here.
